How many conference invitations do you receive each year?  How do you decide which events are must-attends? What should conference organizers be doing to give maximum value for your time and budget?

We thought a lot about these questions at CorpU when we and our partners at UPenn’s Graduate School of Education designed the upcoming 2011 Global Leadership Congress, the annual signature event being held this May 9th-11th in Philadelphia on the UPenn campus.

Practice What You Preach

The Global Leadership Congress has always focused on facilitating conversation and fostering innovative thinking, and we’re taking it up a notch this year with sessions such as:

  • An Interactive Practitioner Presentation Session

Adapting the poster session concept, we have invited leaders who have successfully addressed their companies’ business challenges through award-winning learning  programs to share best practices and network with their colleagues at an entirely peer-to-peer, small group event.

  • A Provocative Discussion and Implementation Plan for Top Industry Challenges

Mike Barger, current CorpU Executive VP of Talent Solutions and former head of JetBlue University, will lead a frank discussion on the most pressing business challenges faced by learning executives (as voted by GLC registrants).    Attendees will then work together to create and vote on practical solutions with immediate applicability to their organization and commit to implementing them.

We have keynote speakers to spark innovative thinking, but our attendees spend most of the congress engaged and working.

Keep It Small, and Get the Right People in the Room

We purposely limit the number of attendees to 120 and seek out senior learning executives, leading academics and industry influencers to ensure that the congress participants have opportunities for in-depth, quality engagement in a productive, workshop setting.

Keep the Conversation Going, Measure the Results

A class that lasted three days and had no follow up wouldn’t impress you very favorably, would it?

The conversations started at the Congress won’t end when the meeting adjourns. CorpU is committed to continuing the dialogue and sharing results throughout the year, including an exclusive group in Linkedin and into the 2012 Global Leadership Congress.
